Chassis-based Routing Core Switch

The 5400R line of chassis-based routing switches provides high-end features and wire-speed, full Layer 3 performance in a moderately-priced package.  This switch also uses the ProVision ASIC, and is therefore OpenFlow/SDN ready.  There are two versions of the switch: one with six payload slots and two power supply slots, and one with twelve payload slots and four power supply slots.  The switch comes with one management module; there’s a slot for a second, redundant management module.  Either switch can be bought as an empty chassis, and there are also selected switch bundles that come with pre-populated modules.  All modules are hot-swap, and the switch has dual flash images that make for easy upgrades with a roll-back to the old configuration if the new one produces problems.  The switches have gigabit, 10 gigabit and 40 gigabit uplink/downlink capability.  These are perfect for even the core switch of a large campus network, or as a distribution switch for a large IDF.

NOTE: there are three versions of this switch, and three versions of the modules that go into it.  Any new switch purchase should be v3, or the latest version, and all modules bought for it should also be v3, although v2 modules will work in a v3 switch.  This detailed part list for the 5400R switch only includes v3 components, with one exception that’s noted as v2; for the other v2 modules and the v2 switches refer to the complete list of switch parts:  ARUBA 5400R ZL2 Switch Series
