Tool Tip Tuesday: PBS Election Central

Election years provide social studies, government, and history teachers with a wealth of real-world connections to the curriculum.  PBS Election Central compiles a wealth of resources that teachers can use to educate students about the election process and put this year’s events in historical context.  There are videos and lesson plans for the debate and nomination process as well as the general election, an interactive map that displays facts about current and potential presidents (including the candidates’ last sightings), and a kit for hosting a debate in your classroom.  There is also a contest that students can enter to view the presidential debates live–all they have to do is write a letter to the candidates about what they think needs to change in government.
