Hewlett-Packard’s Aruba offers a wide range of wireless products; the products most relevant to most standard wireless implementations are listed here (for a complete list of all Aruba wireless products and services, go to the complete parts list).
Aruba offers both Wave One and Wave Two access points; new installations should use Wave Two instead of Wave One because the prices are almost identical. Wireless access points can be controlled and managed in several ways:
- As stand-alone wireless, where one access point is nominated as a master controller and another is nominated as the backup controller,
- As cloud-managed wireless, where the access points—and also the attendant HP wired switches—are controlled from the cloud, and
- As controller-managed, where one or more local controllers are used to provide ready control of the access points.
All Aruba access points can be used in any of these configurations, and unlike other products, can be moved from one control scheme to the other without changing them, their support, or their pricing.
All controllers run the Aruba OS8 and have ClientMatch (active client management), AirMatch (automatic RF management with machine learning), AppRF (application management and prioritization per user and device with deep packet inspection), RFProtect (discovery of and protection from rogue access points), MultiZone (multiple tenant support), and controller clustering.
Controllers can be run as a standalone hardware controller or as a virtual controller on a VMware ESXi or open source KVM hypervisor.
