Management Software

Aruba offers three versions of management software that enhance the function of their wired and wireless network equipment.

AirWave

AirWave is Hewlett-Packard’s integrated, one-pane-of-glass management system for managing wireless access points and selected switches (those switches listed on this website) in a single pane of glass.  This management application is geared toward the effective management of mobile devices at the edge of the networks as well as the management of the switches and access points inside the networks.  AirWave now also includes Clarity, an associated application that allows managers to examine sessions end-to-end, from the client, through all the network, to the servers and hosts that provide services.  Clarity also allows managers to conduct ‘what-if’ scenarios where they can run tests of applications through the network, using a local access point to simulate a client.  This allows them to tune network provisioning in advance.  AirWave provides unprecedented insight and control.  AirWave is suitable for IT staff that do not specialize in network management.

AirWave also allows for the management of third-party network equipment.

The application comes in both a license-to-use or bundled with two Intel-based servers for the management of up to 1,500 and then up to 4,000 total devices.

Intelligent Management Center, IMC  

Intelligent Management Center (IMC) is a software product that offers a complete management environment for Hewlett-Packard switches, and it can also be used to manage third-party switches.  Switch monitoring, control, configuration and management, trending and capacity planning, and automated software updates are features.  The product cost is based on the number of managed nodes.   It also has many add-in modules for the management of wireless networks, WAN and VPN circuits, reporting, service level management, application reporting, and remote site management.  IMC is suitable for large, complex, and switch-heavy networks that have highly trained, dedicated network staffs needing extensive management tools.

ClearPass

ClearPass is the policy manager—it allows managers to determine what users attach to what network segments, at what time, with what device, with what device configuration, to use what services.  Policy management has security and efficiency-of-use results, and can also reduce service problems by enforcing correct usage.   ClearPass integrates with and uses existing Active Directory, RADIUS, WEBAUTH and other security databases, and it can also allow for the creation of a new access database if there are no existing authentication and access databases.

ClearPass is provided as either an appliance with software or as a license-to-use (LTU) for installation on a separate or virtual server.  This provides the basic module, Policy Manager, which provides management and control of network devices, down to the port or connection level, and also of network users.  Policy Manager can be bought as a standalone appliance or as a virtual appliance (LTU) to monitor and control 500, 5,000 or 25,000 entities.

ClearPass Guest is included bundled with Policy Manager and provides complete automation and control of the guest user experience, while protecting the networked resources from unauthorized access.  Two modules can be added to the Policy Manager base: OnBoard and OnGuard.  OnBoard provides a complete suite of tools to safely and successfully connect the organization’s BYOD devices.  OnGuard provides automatic health checking of organizational devices so that only the correct configurations are allowed.

ClearPass can also integrate with a wide variety of third-party security systems to complete an automated, end-to-end security system.

QuickConnect

ClearPass QuickConnect is a lower-end, less expensive module for the control of access using existing 802.1x services.  This module automates the provision of RADIUS-based access services.
